Full Description

A very ruinous structure, presumably once a house, is situated at the NE end of the peninsula, which projects into Loch Linnhhe, NE of Inverscaddle Bay. This corresponds to the unroofed building of two compartments, attached to a length of field wall, depicted on the OS 1st Ed. 6” Map. It may also represent part of the cluster of buildings marked on the Blar Inbhir Scaddail peninsula on a map of Ardgour Estate in 1813, when they were part of “Inverscadale” Farm, though it is perhaps too far North.
The house is difficult to discern under a thick cover of bracken and a large oak tree, which has fallen right across it. However, the stone foundations of a round-angled rectangular house, 8.50m NE-SW by 5m, are visible, particularly on the NW and NE sides. The walls are 0.70m thick and 0.30m high and rubble under the fallen tree may be the remains of a partition.
A turf dyke, 1.20m thick and up to 0.60m high, runs northeastwards from the NE end of the house for 10m before curving southeastwards for a further 60m to the shore. The dyke forms the NE side of a field, bounded on the SW side by a small, unnamed stream. Another length of wall, 20m NW of the house, runs ENE for 30m before disappearing in brushwood and the present road.
