Full Description
A small structure is situated 25m NW of the old head dyke of the Trislaig crofting township and 8m N of the present fence. It occupies a small level promontory on an otherwise steep SE-facing slope, overlooking Loch Linnhe and Fort William. The round-angled rectangular building, 4.20m NE-SW by 3.50m, is defined by a slightly battered wall of drystone masonry, 0.75m wide, which survives to a height of 1.90m at the SE side but c. 1.30m elsewhere. The NE end is particularly dilapidated and the SE downslope side is built up on a base of very large boulders. An enclosure, 9m NE-SW by 8.50m, defined by a low rubble wall curves round the NW and NE sides.
The size of this structure and its location outside the head-dyke suggest that this is a shieling-hut, though the stone construction may indicate more permanent occupation.
