Full Description
A very ruinous structure is just discernible beneath a thick mat of bracken in a triangular area on the N side of the A861 road, between the road and a track leading to the NE. A foundation of single stones can be traced along the SW and SE sides of a rectangular outline, c. 8m NW-SE by 5m at NN0390 6946. This “wall” is at present 0.80m wide and 0.40m high and is further disturbed by the growth of trees at the SE end. 14m to the W is a pile of stone rubble, c. 7m E-W by 4m, which may be the remains of another structure. These two features may correspond with the two unroofed structures, associated with an enclosure, depicted on the OS 1st Ed. 6” Map. They may also represent part of the cluster of buildings marked on the Blar Inbhir Scaddail peninsula on a map of Ardgour Estate in 1813, when they were part of “Inverscadale” Farm, though they are perhaps too far North.
The enclosure wall, which crosses the A861 road at NN 0383 6945, is the most prominent feature on the site. It runs N-S to the road and subsequently turns to the E along the S side of the road, as marked on the current OS maps. A further structure is visible within this enclosure, at NM 0384 6954. Horseshoe shaped in plan, 4.50m N-S by 5m, it consists of rubble walls, 1.20m wide and 0.60m high, and is open at the S end.
