Full Description
Old road line visible in the wood as ditched and banked route from c2598998 890173 to 260305 889775. This lies uphill of the current road line, which is depicted on the 1st ed OS on its current line. Suggested locally that this is the line of an old drove road and that on fair days cattle could be pastured in the wood. Possible that road line was shifted when railway put in close to the shore, but this cannot be confirmed. Possible that original road line ran further north to provide a safer crossing point of the burn for the cattle. - HAW 11/2003
