Full Description

Circular sheepfold marked on 1st ed OS - HAW 6/2003

NOTE: This site would appear to have been assigned an incorrect grid reference (326804 945011) as there is nothing shown on the OS 1st edition map at this location. There is however, a circular sheep fold shown c.195m to the northwest. The record has been moved to this location accordingly [IS-L 18/01/2023].

This circular sheepfold is situated in poorly drained moorland 330m SSE of the remains of Bullbrest farmsteading (ND34NE 22). The fold measures 9.4m in diameter within a dry-stone wall 0.9m in thickness and 1m in height, and has an entrance on the S. It is first depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet XXIX).
