Full Description

Fairy Glen name given to woodland on E side of stream. Lower part in private ownership, upper part in Woodland Trust. Old oak wood, interspersed with Scots Pine that was mostly removed in WW2, although some remains on edges and in tree clumps to E of wood. According to Mr Banham tracks built to facilitate removal are still visible.
The woods belonged to the Carnegie estate of Skibo and the family used to visit here for picnics, so there are a series of walks, bridges etc and there used to be a picnic hut. (NB 2 cairns in wood as well). A small quarry pit ? lies imediately N of the road by the access, but large pines growing within it indicate that it must have been out of use for some time. - HAW 6/2003
