Full Description
Trial trenching on site to W of hotel (and immed E of castle/henge, but on other side of railway line) prior to development 02/370/FULRC. Northern portion appears to have been already top soiled stripped (perhaps when houses put in to N in 1960s). Top soil over rest v shallow 20-30cm max. Sandy subsoil. Modern ditch cutting across several trenches NNW-SSE with brick & other rubbish in it. All other features appear to be tree root holes or natural. No finds apart from those in ditch and on the surface. - HAW 3/2003
