Full Description

This is described as 'a small piece of rough pasture ground situated about 50 yards south of Ruthven Castle where tradition points to as being the place where the dead of the garrison were buried' (NB, Inverness, Book 53, 87). Tom na Croiche, the gallows-hill, lies between Loch nan Tarbh and Knappach, just to the south of the present farm of Ruthven (ibid., 89).

This NGR is given by Mitchell (1970-4, 13), but there was apparently no trace of the burial ground during this survey.
The village above Inverton had a thriving fair on St. John’s day (Scarlett 1988, 17).

NGR incorrect - adjusted from 274600 799500 to be approx 50 yards south of barracks ruins. Is this actually the same site as MHG29802? [IS-L 16/08/2016].
