Full Description
Boat shaped stone structure reported by D Bastow. Photos to SMR. "the boat is about 25' long and about 13' wide at the widest. It points ESE. The upper wall leans against a slight bank which rises above it" - HAW 12/2002
Site visit, see photos. The function of the structure is uncertain. Built on a natural stone outcrop, several courses of large stones to form walling and possibly several more collapsed outward. On the first terrace above the beach and into the side of the hill. According tyo Mr Bastow (local researcher) none of the locals know its function, but it is unlikely that a structure of any great antiquity would have survived in this location. Probably associated with the small natural harbour. One longer stone in the collapse is possibly a lintel, which would indicate a building. Boat shaped seems to indicate that an old boat could have been used for roofing, as seen occasionally on some of the islands. Net store? - HAW 12/2002
