Full Description
Sloping site SW of ruined Castle. Enclosed on 3 sides by high brick and stone walls, greenhouses and boiler house at upper (west) end. Probably laid out late 1860's. It is recorded in one of Queen Victoria's diaries (1871) that Edward Ellice, the then owner, presented her with a bunch of grapes from his greenhouses as she was passing in the Royal yacht. She politely declined his invitation to take tea in his mansion, now the Castle Hotel.
H M Rogers, Invergarry, 1998.
