Full Description

An archaeological walkover survey of a single, distinct area of proposed planting of natural woodland regeneration was carried by M. Wildgoose at Coille an Torran, Raasay in 1999.

Site 7: At the foot of the west-facing cliffs, about 300.0m to the north of Site 06, is a second natural overhang, this has also been walled in to form a small pen. This overhang measures only 4.0m long by 2.0m deep and is almost 2.0m high. A well made, stone wall has been constructed across the mouth of the shelter forming an enclosed pen. A narrow entrance lies in the centre of the wall. <1> (Note; the NGR in this report is incorrect TB 4/7/25)

Raasay Survey 2000. Site 31: a sub-rectangular shelter 1.90m by 2.80m built under the overhang. The well preserved stone-built walls are standing to a height of about 1.50m with an entrance 0.60m wide mid way along the longest wall. <2>
