Full Description

An archaeological walkover survey of a single, distinct area of proposed planting of natural woodland regeneration was carried by Martin Wildgoose at Coille an Torran, Raasay in 1999.

Site 3: Amongst bracken at the foot of a north-east-facing outcrop is a small stone pen that measures 2.0m in diameter over walls 0.5m thick. The walls still stand to 1.0m high. There is no visible entrance. <1>

Raasay Survey 2000. Site 25: Built into a stony bank under a northeast facing rock face on the west side of the gully which runs from the east coast northwest to Torran, lies a sub-circular structure, approximately 1.10m diameter. The stone-built east wall stands to a height of 0.90m and is 0.60m thick. The west side is scooped out of the stony bank behind. There is no visible entrance. The structure overlooks a fairly level area of approximately 20m north-south by 10m east-west which has been stone cleared and shows signs of rig running east-west at 3.50m centres.<2>
