Full Description
Raasay Survey 2000. Site 21: Across the col to the southwest of Creag na Gaoithe, is a substantial wall running approximately north-south, with a 0.80m wide gateway but no gate surviving. The wall runs between two bluffs for 27m south of the gateway and 5m to the north. The northern section has largely collapsed but the southern portion stands to a height of 1.10m at the gate, varying from 0.50m to lm elsewhere and with a width of 1.10m. Another stretch of wall runs for 50m east from this wall, curving northwards to an outcrop. The western end of this wall survives to two courses and further east to a height of 1.0m. Uphill of the wall is a pathway which appears in places to be a made track, leading to the area of Feature 23. South of the east-west wall and to the east of the col generally, the ground forms a series of natural well drained grassy terraces. Some stone appears to have been cleared from this area probably to build the walls, while at other points it has been left in small clearance cairns. There is no immediate evidence of cultivation. <1>
