Full Description
Raasay Survey 2000. Site 17: Just below and northwest of the summit of the rise (130m) to the west of Sithean Mor, a small rectangular stone building stands in an area of intensive peat-cutting. Probably a peat cutter's hut, it measures 1.90m by 1.30m internally on a north-south axis. The walls are 0.40m thick of single stone construction, standing to a height of 0.70m to 0.80m in places. The entrance is at the south end of the east wall and the west wall is partly built against outcrop. The north wall has little stone remaining and may have been at least partly of turf. Relatively crudely built, with a mixture of large boulders and small stones, there are no internal features. Planks and other small pieces of timber lying inside would seem to be the remains of roofing supports. <1>
