Full Description

Information from Watching Brief carried out Sept-Nov 2000 by Stuart Farrell.

The site comprises of the remains of a small township of houses , enclosures and corn drying kiln of about 12 buildings, the site lies on land formerly owned by the Duke of Gordon.

The site has benn partly surveyed by the RCAHMS as part of the Afforrestable Land survey in 1995. (NMRS MS 731/18)

15 structures noted during survey.

The history of the site is unknown, no record of the site in the 1841 census, with the exception of Strome Cottage situated to the south. The site is thought to have been cleared in 1803 when other clearances were occurring in the Badenoch area.

Details of watching brief available in report no.163. No archaeological deposits were uncovered and no recommendations were made.
