Full Description

A trial trenching project was carried out on Tain Golf Course In May 1996. The site of a proposed car-park was under turf. 10 of the trenches revealed archaeologically sterile deposits of sand and mud. Trench 11 revealed domestic rubbish from the 20th century. One trench was cut up to the bottom of the substantial bank that runs around the perimeter wall of the graveyard. The steep sides of the bank imply that it served the function of a flood-barrier prior to the relocation of the River Tain.
