Full Description
A metal object was found on the coastline east of the hardour at Ackergill. The object seems to be made of iron and is sub-hemispherical in shape, hollow, with a circular flange attached, with an overall diameter of about 10 inches. A section of the flange is missing, but the part which survives bears some apparent rivot-holes. It is suggested that it might be the remains of a 'shield boss'.
The erosion on this part of the coastline is revealing some human burial remains - femur, evidence of burials in antiquity?
