Full Description
Call from Allan Rutherford, Historic Scotland, 22/8/00 to say that he had been contacted by a Caithness crofter who was worried that he might have damaged a protected site.
He hadn't, but Allan persuaded him to ring me. As far as I can gather the location is as on attached map.
He was apparently putting in a strainer post for a new fence - the 2nd strainer hole, and dug up a piece of pottery with the date 1670 on it, followed by 2 leather shoes and 2 bones. It's not clear whether the bones were human or not.
He has re-buried the finds except for the pottery fragment and 1 leather shoe.
