Full Description
NN79NW 44 7001 9898 and 7005 9911
This hut-circle stands on a terrace within birch woodland 450m NW of Biallaid House. It measures 10m from N to S by 9m transversely within a wall reduced to a stony bank spread to 1.7m in thickness and 0.3m in height. Occasional outer facing stones survive on the W, while a dip in the crest of the bank on the SE may mark the position of the entrance (KING95 93). To the N and NE of the hut-circle numerous small cairns are visible in clearings within the woodland across an area measuring at least 250m from NE to SW by 100m transversely, and there are more small cairns in the woods to the SW, the extent of which could not be mapped. Most of these cairns are likely to be of prehistoric date, although it should be noted that one of them overlies the hut-circle wall on the S.
Amongst the cairns, in cleared ground 125m NNE of the hut-circle at NN 7005 9911, there are the remains of a sub-circular hut (KING95 810) measuring about 3.7m in diameter within a stony bank 0.8m in thickness. The E half of this hut has been obscured by a clearance heap.
