An earth-and-stone head-dyke runs along the terrace some 150m to the NE of the edge of the steeply incised valley of the River Calder. From its NW end the dyke runs for some 500m to the SE, before turning to head to the ESE for some 200m, fading out at the edge of Newtonmore. Distinct fields have been laid off both sides of the dyke at the NW end and to the SW at the SE end. The ground between the dyke and the bank of the River Calder is grass-covered and has been cultivated, bearing faint traces of ridging, aligned from NW to SE. A group of about twenty small cairns, measuring up to 5m in diameter and 0.4m in height, form a discrete cluster on both sides of the dyke (NN 704 994). The cairns to the SW of the dyke have been clipped by ploughing and are all elongated along the axis of the ridging. Some of the cairns have been supplemented by recent clearance and are consequently larger than those to the NE of the dyke. A further discrete group of at least twenty small cairns lie some 150m to the E (NN 708 994).
