Full Description

On the N side of the road from Inverie to Airor about 350 metres W of Scotus Burn is a rectangular structure. 1.5m higher than the road it is set back 2.0m from it within an enclosure bounded by a turf bank on the W and N and on the E by a burn (25m to the E).
Measuring 11.5m E/W by 5.5m transversely over walls 0.8m thick and up to 0.7m high. Wall corners are round and in the S side wall is an entrance 0.8m wide, its W margin 5.0m from the outer SW corner.
The 1st Ed OS Map shows two structures, both roofed, one parallel to the road, the other at an angle to it.

A rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out in 1999 by J. Wordsworth as part of the preparation for a planned Community Woodland in Knoydart.

Site 1: c45m east of the cattle grid forming the west boundary to this proposed plantation and above the modern road are the footings of a round ended building measuring 11m by 5m aligned ENE/WSW. Around this building are the substantial remains of a turf and stone dyke up to 1.5m high defining an area 30m square. The area is badly obscured by bracken and some birch scrub is encroaching on the NE side of the enclosure. This building was not recorded on the earlier OS maps.
To the south of the road is an open bracken-clad area, probably an area of former cultivation though cultivation rigs could be seen. <1>
