Full Description
NC60NE 43 6559 0697
This large C-shaped burnt mound is situated beside an unnamed burn which flows N to the Allt Achadh na Teanga. It stands on an islet between two braided channels as the burn opens out into a flat marshy valley floor. The mound measures 14.4m from N to S by 14.2m transversely and 2m in height. The surface remains suggest a sequence of troughs on the S side. The latest, towards the centre of the mound, is lined with stones and measures 2.4m N-S by 1.3m transversely. Below this there is an apparently earlier trough which measures 3m from N to S by 1.8m from E to W at its N end, narrowing towards the S edge of the mound. One stone may be part of a lining. The impression gained at the time of visit was that there may have been two troughs here, one aligned from E to W, the other from N to S.
