Full Description

NC60NE 37 6609 0918

There are at least two shieling-huts on a slight rise, crowned by a later circular stell, in rough grassland on the NE side of the Allt na Luibe. One hut is situated immediately to the E of the stell; it measures 4.5m in length by 2.3m in breadth within a turf bank spread to 1m in thickness (ROG95 214). The second hut (ROG95 215) is located about 40m to the SW, on the line of a bank which may have enclosed the other huts. It measures 4.3m in length by 2.5m in breadth, again within a 1m-thick turf bank. Both of these huts are depicted, roofless, on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland, 1879, sheet xcv), along with what appears to be a three-compartment building, only slight traces of which survive to the WSW of the stell.
