Full Description

NC70SW 139 7344 0419

This two-compartment building, which may have been a stable, stands within a croft 175m N of Ballendoch (the adjacent roofed building was not recorded on the date of survey), and measures 9.1m from E to W by 3.1m transversely within mortared-rubble walls, 0.6m thick and up to 1.5m high, with an entrance on the S. Each compartment has a separate entrance. In the E compartment there is a step on either side of the entrance marking the edge of a stand for animals, 1.9m wide, but only one in the W compartment against the W wall, because of its smaller size. This building is depicted as roofed on the 1st and 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch maps (Sutherland 1879 and 1907, sheet civ).
