Full Description

A building at Tòrr Mòr, Strath, Skye.

A single unroofed building is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye 1881, sheet li), but it is not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1988).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 29 November 1996.

The site was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 in advance of a proposed woodland creation scheme. The square cornered, stone foundations of a rectangular structure lying on the back of the shore. These foundations lie on sloping, boggy ground and are badly disturbed. The remains are aligned northeast to southwest and measure 8m by 4.6m over walls 0.70m thick. There is no obvious door opening. Lying about 80m to the west, also on the back of the shore, is a small area of lazy bed cultivation which stands out as a patch of dense bracken. <1>

The given grid reference for this feature is slightly incorrect. A feature answering the description is visible on vertical aerial photography c.27m to the west-northwest. <2>
