Full Description

A hut circle at Cnoc Na Sgaile. See MHG64485 for the probably associated field system.

At NH 3850 3219 on the summit of a ridge is a circular stone-walled hut within a contemporary field system, separated from NH22SE 11 & 13 by wet gullies. The hut measures about 13.0m in diameter between the centres of a wall spread to about 4.0m all round. Outcrop rock is incorporated in the NW arc, and a few outer facing stones are visible, but insufficient for overall measurment. The E arc is mutilated and entrance is not evident. Inside the hut, against the W arc, is an ill-defined circular structure measuring about 2.5m in diameter, formed by a stony bank about 1.5m wide, with no apparent entrance.

The field system, on a SE-facing slope, is partly obscured by bracken and scrub. Where it is best seen, near the hut, it consists of a few stone clearance heaps with natural terraces and lynchets forming plots averaging about 35m by 25m.
Surveyed at 1/10 000.
