On a sloping and now fairly boggy sloping terrace on the W side of the Gergask Burn are a group of shieling mounds covering an area of c2 hectares. The mounds survive as grassy knolls up to 1m high
in an area of heather and rough grassland, gradually being swamped by long heather. Some 26 mounds were counted. Apart from 1 structure measuring 6m by 3m, the majority measured 3m by 2m.
The grassy pasture to the N is described in 1791 in Mrs Grant's Letters from the Mountains 2, p179 as 'hollow and verdant, a reservoir of copious springs and abounds in early pasturage, and berries peculiar to these regions.' No mention is made of using shielings in these letters and it is probable that they had been
abandoned by this date.

What may be one roofed shieling-hut and two unroofed shieling-huts are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1872, sheet c), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1992).
