Full Description

NC00NW 33 centred on 0444 0795

There are at least seven subrectangular and oval shieling-huts (ACHIL94 123-128, 142) and two mounds (ACHIL94 143, 144) situated within the boulder fields stretching across the heads of the Allt Bad a' Chotair, the Allt a'Bhaid-choille and the Badenscallie Burn.
The huts measure between 1.5m by 1.1m (ACHIL94 123) and 4.8m by 1.7m (ACHIL94 127) within rubble footings up to 0.8m in thickness and 0.4m in height.
The grass-grown mounds, which are oval and measure 4.7m by 3.1m (ACHIL94 143) and 3.4m by 3m (ACHIL94 144), are situated on the N bank of a small stream. Lifting a sod revealed a black peaty soil, which suggests that the mounds may be the remains of turf huts.
