Full Description

NG46SW 7 centred on 410 632

A crofting township comprising twenty roofed, three unroofed buildings and their associated enclosures and field walls is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Skye 1879, sheet vii). The township is defined to the N by the River Conon and to the W, S and E by a head-dyke. The head-dyke to the W separates Sheader from the township of Peinsoraig. The E portion of the head-dyke is fragmentary running from NG 4138 6339 to NG 4197 6266 and separates Sheader from the township of Balnaknock. The current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968) shows more extensive remains which include a section running across a rocky outcrop called Castle Ewen (NG 415 629).
Seven roofed, twenty unroofed buildings, and a head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968).
