Full Description
'Twenty-seven skulls, and a corresponding quantity of vertebrae, and other bones, have been discovered during the past month by workmen in levelling some earthworks at Fort Augustus, Inverness-shire. They were all face upwards and turned towards the east, as in an ordinary burying ground. They were at regular distances from each other, but with no traces of coffins. If the earthworks are coeval with the fort, the bones must be at least 150 years old.'
