Full Description
Three extensive lines of grouse butts, running roughly parallel with the Phones Lodge drive, are associated with the rise of Victorian sporting interest in the estate. Much of the heather moor to the north and west of Glen Fernisdale has a history of burning for grouse management.
Information from an environmental statement prepared in advance of regeneration and tree planting at Ordan Shuas, Phones and Etteridge Estate, Newtonmore by Finlayson Hughes, March 1996 (FCC2258/Report 82/BAS).
The NGR given is in the centre of the grouse butts; they extend onto sheet NN69SE and NN79SW.
