Centred at NH 474 120 is a settlement of at least fourteen stone-walled huts (A-O) with a contemporary field system, overlaid by the grass-grown footings and contemporary cultivation of the deserted townships of Dalchapple and E Ardochy. (See NH 41 SE 3).
The NW and the S parts of the area have recently been afforested and huts A and B, and huts J to O, have been ploughed through. It is possible that there were more huts in the SW, but it is now impossible to differentiate between most of the ancient and modern buildings in this part because of the damage caused by the afforestation.
Huts J and N are oval and measure respectively about 16.0m NNE-SSW by 14.5, and 11.5m ENE-WSW by 10.0m, each between wall centres. All the others are circular, and measure between 8.5m and 15.5m between the centres of strong rubble walls spread to as much as 3.5m in width. Entrances, where visible, are in the NE quadrant. The ancient field system is marked by stone clearance heaps and strong field walls which often spring from the hut walls showing their association, but the general pattern is confused by the walls of the later cultivation. The entire area in now afforested. With the exception of 'G' at NH 4730 1206 all huts are now mutilated and obscured by forestry operations. Survey revised at 1/2500.
