Full Description

A shieling hut at Allt Caol (Erchless Burn, Erchless, Strath Glass). Noted as the site to the NW by the OS.

What may be two unroofed shieling-huts approximately 150m apart are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1876-81, sheet ix). Only the unroofed building to the NW is shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1971).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 14 May 1996

Included in field survey by R Spencer-Jones in 2022 (Erchless Burn 11). Structure 3, probable shieling builiding. <1>
This is the building seen on current 25k OS map, just to the east of the tributary of the Allt na Traighean. The most prominent feature is a component of the south wall that stands prominently in the landscape, 0.7 metres high and measuring 5.5 x 4 metres. Being so discrete, it may be a later feature created from the stones of the ruined building. The other upstanding walls are up to 0.3 metres. <2>
