------
As indicated from map evidence. A scattered line of buildings and enclosures on rough ground above the drystone dyke enclosing the improved fields of Mungasdale Farm. The structures nearest the dyke survive as low footings only, probably heavily robbed in the construction of the dyke. The structures higher up the slope are more visible, standing several courses high.
Associated turf and stone dykes run SSE to the road, and south of the road are more dykes and small areas of former cultivation. No associated structures are visible within the improved fields, but along the shore and particularly in the area of dunes there is the potential for features to have survived. The footings of one small building were noted immediately south of the dunes, where there are also the concrete footings of Second World War buildings.
Pont’s original plans indicate two areas of settlement at Mungastell, although Blaeu notes only one. Roy shows a square enclosure south of the buildings, in approximately the same location as the present farm. Thomson gives both Mungastil east of the bay, and Mongerdale at the farm.
