Full Description
An archaeological survey at Rothiemurchas was undertaken by Dr T C Welsh in 1993.
A boring mill supposed to have been started in 1764 and described by Elizabeth Grant c1812, the most likely site being 60m SE of Boring Mill Cottage, built 1880s. The main problem in identification being practical head of water and working space. The former lochans around the west side of the Allt na Cardoch are linked at several points, and evidence of damming necessary to avoid a main dam being bypassed is lacking. However there is the possible base of a dam where the stream divides at this reference, 15m long and 6m broad, NE of which, along stream bank, is a foundation 13 x 5m, SE of store building. <1>
