Full Description

ND34SW 93 33210 42659 and 33207 42461

Location formerly entered as ND 3327 4266.

What may be two bomb craters, each measuring about 10.5m in diameter within a low mound of upcast peat, are situated towards the N end of the summit of the Hill of Ulbster some 265m and 285m respectively N of the abandoned radar station ND34SW 290. Previously interpreted as hut-circles (Mercer 1985, 258, no. 205a & b), the craters may be the result of enemy action directed either at the decoy airfield (ND34SW 311.00), which lay at the foot of the NE flank of the Hill of Ulbster, or the radar station (ND34SW 290) that stood on its summit.
