A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were undertaken by Clyde Archaeology in 2023 in relation to a proposed underground cable south of Mybster, Caithness. A small rectangular building and enclosures lie immediately to the east of the road on the OS 6 inch to the mile map surveyed in 1871 at the north-eastern end of Shepherdstown. A dry stone building with a tin roof is currently upstanding on the site but is used as a barn and the walls do not appear to be stable, particularly at the western end which shows signs of collapse. Low stone walls on the road side may indicate former structures. Evidence of phasing is present including a blocked door and abutting walls. Although no access inside was possible the wooden roof frame appears to lie on the wall head with no crucks being visible at the time of the survey. <1>
