An enclosure attached to what may be a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet ciii). A length of boundary wall is shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1992).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 3 November 1995

A desk based assessment and rapid walk-over archaeological survey was carried out at Torroble, Lairg by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1999.

Site No. : The enclosure centred here, mostly E of the railway outside the survey area, measures 300m N/S by 250m E/W. Only 60m extends W into the survey area. This was probably constructed in the mid to late 18th century on documentary evidence. The enclosing dyke is well-preserved surviving up to 1.2m in places. There is no sign of cultivation within the enclosure, but the vigorous grassland and bracken in the interior contrast with the heather moorland suggesting this was formerly cultivated. Some birch have already established themselves at the SW end.
Recommendation: Ideally the birch should be removed from within the enclosure and the whole area left as open ground within the established woodland as a landscape feature. However management of this is unlikely to prove practical in the long term. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 1999-2001 vertical aerial photographs. <2>
