Full Description

NC91SW 4 931 126

A farmstead comprising three unroofed buildings and an area of cultivation is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1879, sheet lxxxix). Four unroofed buildings and part of a ring-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1963).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 16 October 1995

On visiting the site on the 04/08/2011, the following description of the site was provided by Ken and Jean Bowker:

"It is impossible to relate the earlier description without using survey equipment. The site consists of one ruinous built wall and a wide scattering of loose rocks. It is not possible to discern any pattern, or more than two structures - any outlines can not be easily traced. Turf banks interconnect occasional exposed stones, presumably the remains of walls. A well-used animal path from the east runs westwards straight past the southern edge of the site, in so purposeful a manner that it may be an old access track. At the eastern edge of the site is a clapper bridge over a small north-south burn which runs into the Loth Burn. WNW of the site is a turf-walled enclosure, now very boggy, about 50m square." <1>

Four photographs of the site were submitted by Ken and Jean Bowker along with the above description of the site. <1>

The buildings and a presumably associated sub-square enclosure (lying to the southwest at NGR 292985 312539, rather than to the west-northwest where the only feature visible is an obvious hut circle) are visible on vertical aerial photographs. <2> <3>
