Full Description

NM56SW 6 5222 6298

NM 522 629. Two buildings were shown here in 1875, one of them roofed, together with a small patch of cultivated ground. This was probably occupied by a crofter or perhaps a shepherd. The gaelic name descirbes a cave in the vicinity, probably at NM 5235 6295. This may have been utilised as a temporary shelter from Mesolithic times. A small enclosure wall is shown on the cliffs behind this site. This has been a desk assessment area.
J Wordsworth, SSSIs, Scottish Natural Heritage, 1993

One unroofed and one roofed building are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire 1875, sheet xxv), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974).
