"Arabella and Shandwick (Old and New) are lesser houses representing the tradition in Easter Ross of small but prosperous estates ...
Old Shandwick, 1790-1805, 'a handsome mansion', was built by Sir george Cockburn Ross of Berwickshire who succeeded in 1790: handsome indeed, even in its present dilapidated state, with centre crenellated bowed bay, Venetyian windows and the remaibns of an elegant cantilevered staircase. Replaced by New Shandwick, c.1900, faintly echoing the style of its predecessor"
