Full Description
A rectangular building is situated on the S side of the B8044 road to Ardtoe, c. 50m NE of Kentra Pier (SMR NM67SW0004) and adjacent to the old school house. It consists of a barrel-vaulted chamber, 7m NNW-SSE by c. 4.40m, which abuts the revetted road embankment. The chamber reaches 1.80m at wall-head level and rises another 1m or so to the top of the roof. A layer of turf would have originally added extra insulation. (Mr. George Fox pers. comm.) A drain pipe issues out of the NE side. An outer chamber, 5m WSW – ENE by 3m, with a lean-to roof, projects from the front end. The latter has been repointed and reroofed in recent years.
