Full Description

A survey of the archaeological and historic features was undertaken within Abernethy Forest Reserve for the RSPB in 1995.

An abandoned field system, shown on the 1858 Seafield Estate map, the 1863 OS map and the 1:10,000 OS map was identified as a clearing in birch woodland defined along its northern boundary by a line of sawn birch stumps and along its eastern end by the indistinct remains of a drystone wall running 20° N/s and consisting of stone and turf obscured by dense heather regrowth. The wall appears to run for about 35m after there is a possible turn to 60°, although its exact course is obscure. <1>
