Full Description

NN 1005 7376. A circular dry stone well, at least 2m deep, was found during alterations to a building at 36 High Street, Fort William. The well,1.0m in diameter, has a coping of dressed granite) stones. A brick arch partly covers the structure. It may be associated with the primary building on the site and may relate to the wall ovens in the same room (see ground photo no. 87/06/1/102-013). Further research to be done carried out by Lochaber Historical Society. It is hoped that the well will be preserved as part of modern renovations.
