Full Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by CFA Archaeology in 2019 in advance of a proposed wind farm development at Kintradwell, Sutherland. Four buildings are depicted on Roy’s ‘Military Survey of Scotland’ map (1747 – 55) associated with an enclosure, but it is not clear if these represent this settlement or another settlement within the wider vicinity. The remains of the settlement are depicted on the current Ordnance Survey map (2019) comprising two or three unroofed structures and a trapezoidal enclosure, enclosed within a field system. A second field system lies to the south east enclosing two small structures. A rectangular structure with a square enclosure can be seen on aerial imagery (Google Earth 2010) sitting within an oval field system. Not visited during field survey as the location lies well away from any proposed development area. <1>
