Full Description
NC 046 294. Eleven shielings and enclosures on cleared land around Loch nan Cullach.
Info contained in letter from T C Welsh, 4 July 1971.
A group of approximately 11 shieling bothies centred at NC047293 among broken rocky country. The shielings and contemporary cultivation strips are almost completely encircled by a wall. The bothy footings are small, sub-rectangular to sub-triangular in plan, and up to 0.4 m high. Some remains are so poor that they are almost indistinguishable from associated stone clearance heaps which occur in the vicinity.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J B) 28 July 1980.
A walkover survey of an area affected by a proposed Woodland Grant Scheme at Balchladich, was conducted by C. Dagg in 1999: Site 10: Probable Shieling Site. This site was well away from the survey area but was mentioned for the purpose of inclusion in the Highland Council's Sites and Monuments Register. <1>
