Full Description

NC14SE 13 1691 4276.

At NC 1691 4276, set on a shelf on a S-facing slope, is a sub-oval homestead obscured by peat and heather. It measures approximately 10.0m by 6.0m internally. Intermittent inner and outer facing stones survive around the perimeter giving a wall thickness of between 0.9m and 1.3m; elsewhere the wall is defined by a band of rubble, on average 0.3m in height. The entrance is not clearly defined, but a decrease in the amount of rubble at the E end suggests it was here; a narrow gap in the S side is mutilation. A small heap of stones in the interior on the NE side is of unknown date and purpose, though it may be a clearance heap. Two possible clearance heaps lie close by to the SE.
The date of the homestead is unknown; it would seem to be of some antiquity, with constructional features like those of hut circles. For type-site see NC25NW 1.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (J B) 19 JUne 1980.
