(NC 4691 5889) Cairn (NR) OS 6"map, (1961)
It is very doubtful that this feature, discovered by the previous investigator, is a cairn. It survives as an amorphous, peat-covered swelling, about 7.5m across and 0.6m high, with little stone content. The central depression appears to be a turf-built shieling, 4.0m by 3.0m and 0.2m maximum internal height. The mound effect is probably a result of successive shielings on the same site, or the utilisation of a low eminence as a shieling stance.
Visited by OS (A C) 3 June 1959 and (N K B) 5 October 1978
