Full Description

Two hut circles and the remains of a third were discovered during
field investigation.
Visited by OS (EGC) 23 June 1963

Centred at NC 550 138 just below the spine of a low ridge are two clearly-defined, heather-covered hut circles. ('A' and 'B')
'A' at NC 5504 1383 is set into the slope and measures 11m SE-NW x 9m within a wall, 0.5m internal height, which is spread to 2.5m broad widening to 3m at the SE entrance which appears to be splayed.
'B' at NC 5509 1380 is about 11m in diameter and built into the slope with a revetted W arc. The wall has a general spread of 2.5m widening to 3m in the W; the maximum internal height is 0.8m. The entrance is in the S.
The alleged 'hut' some 30m to the S of 'B' shows no sign of levelling and the possible length of walling appears to be the result of peat build up between two clearance heaps.
A few clearance heaps occur on the dry ground in the immediate vicinity of the huts. Other mounds in the surrounding poorly-drained area appear to be of peat. No field plots are discernable. Surveyed at 1:10 000. Visited by OS (JB) 12 June 1976

These two hut-circles are situated on a ridge in open moorland 200m NE of Caolishie.
1. NC 5509 1381 (OS 'B') The upper of the two is situated on gently sloping ground SW of the crest of the ridge. It measures about 9m in diameter within a stony bank 2m in thickness and 0.5m in height. The entrance is on the S.
2. NC 5503 1384 (OS 'A') The second lies on a terrace on the SW side of the ridge some 60m to the NW. It measures about 9m from NNW to SSE by 8m within a stony bank 2m in thickness by 0.5m in height; its entrance is on the SSE.
Visited by RCAHMS (SH) 10 October 1989.
