Full Description

(A: NC 6747 3841, B: NC 6749 and C: NC 6751 3841) Enclosures (NR) OS 6"map, (1963)

This is a settlement of three hut circles (A-C) on the NW river terrace of the Naver. Two were previously published (OS 6"map, Sutherlandshire, 2nd ed., 1906) and a third hut was found during field investigation (OS {EGC}). The only signs of associated cultivation are one or two mounds of stone clearance between the settlement and river side. The huts are oval in form; in 'A' and 'B' and entrance is from ESE, unusually on line of shorter axis, and in 'C' from S quarter.
'A', much the best preserved, is 13.7m by 12.2m inside a heather covered boulder-slab wall 0.8m high and estimated width 1.4m. The hut interior bears an appreciable amount of loose stone obscured by overgrowth; no structure can be established.
'B' is 12m by 9.5m within a peat-silted reduced wall, spread 1.5-2m broad, partly quarried out in NW arc. Revetting is apparent outside SW segment.
'C' is 9.5m by 8.5m internally. The wall is wasted and peat obscured.
Visited by OS (E G C) 8 May 1961 and (J M) 15 March 1977.
